Say Anything

Filed under: Listening, Reading, Watching — Emily @ 10:24 am

say anything posterJust watched John Cusack in the movie Say Anything again for the first time in a million years, and it moved me. I mean really moved me. I think it’s his best film.

I feel a little like I’m regressing these days: writing young adult fiction, thinking about high school. It’s a little creepy, and it feels like therapy sometimes.

Been considering my defining “high school” movies, but all I can come up with are films from before I reached that age: Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. John Hughes, even after all these years. How lame.

  1. Hey, I’d love any suggestions of good high school movies from people who grew up earlier or later than me. So I can compare and contrast teen angst?

  2. I remember skipping school to go watch Ferris Bueller.

Here are some others off the top of my head:
    HEATHERS
    PORKY’S
    THE OUTSIDERS

  3. Well, there’s also:
10 Things I Hate About You (a remake of “The Taming of the Shrew.”)
Clueless (Jane Austen’s Emma meets Beverley Hills 90210)
Mean Girls (awesome movie from 2004 with Lindsey Lohan)

  4. Heh, skipping to watch Ferris. Funny.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

    I loved Mean Girls.

Porky’s was horrible. I still cringe at the thought of it and it’s been like 15 years since I watched it.

  5. Hey Kiddo, what’s up!

One classic of all time is definitely “Better off Dead” also starring the ameniable John Cusack.

And obviously ANYthing the two Coreys were in.
