Help! Anyone know where to get one of these in Toronto:
I already have an enormous magnifying glass, and want to get ready for when the first Natalie Fuentes mystery novel, Strange Times at Western High, comes out in the fall. I’m doing some pre-launch promotion at Book Expo Canada in June and thought I might show up in costume…
Try the Hatter. While the downtown location closed recently, they still have a location on Avenue south of the 401.
I remember that they did have Sherlock Holmes style hats though I cannot remember the price.
If that doesn’t work, there is Rotman’s. It’s on the east side of Spadina south of Nassau. Their selection isn’t nearly as good, though, so you are probably better off trying the Hatter.

Success! I scored a blue one at a men’s hat shop on Avenue Rd near Lawrence. Who knew they’re actually called “Deer Stalkers”? Ick.
