Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls and the person who gave “voice” to both Rory and Lorelai Gilmore, is leaving the show. Boo. I’m worrying that this signals the end of my favourite TV show–OK, so it’s the only show I actually work my schedule around each week.
GG has been one of my guilty pleasures ever since my sister introduced me to it several years ago. Not your usual family sitcom, the crazy, independent Gilmore women and their eclectic friends have been my Tuesday night dates for a long time now.
How can anyone resist the lightning-fast blur of feminist pop culture references, political jokes, family psychoses, and romantic melodramas? Plus the characters are so perfectly oddball: Christiane Amanpour-wannabe Rory, indie rock chick Lane Kim, clumsy gourmet chef Sookie St. James, crotchety diner owner and misanthrope with a heart of gold Luke Danes…

“crotchy diner owner and misanthrope with a heart of gold Luke Danes…”
Crotchy??
I don’t usually pester people about typos, but this one’s classic!

That is, if you meant “crotchety” and crotchy is not some new word that I don’t know about.
:)

Oh no!
I was afraid something like this would happen (I’ve had to miss the past 2 months of the show, and had this superstitious feeling that the show wouldn’t be waiting for me to get back).
Did you find out why Sherman-Palladino is leaving? Hopefully her successor cares about the characters as much as she has. And I really hope they can hang on to the same writers!

Well, the obvious response to James’ comment is that you just REALLY like Luke…

Gah! Okay, okay. I changed the word. Thanks for the catch, James.
And I do really like Luke the character, Fiona. Just not THAT way…
In terms of reasons, I did read a great interview with Amy and her husband/co-showrunner David Paladino by a TV gossip writer, Mike Ausiello. It pretty much explains what happened…
