Violet #2, London and Global Pop Conspiracy

Global Pop ConspiracyWillow Dawson, comic artist extraordinaire, is currently inking Violet Miranda #2, and let me just say it looks awesome! A couple pages will be in the fall issue of The New Quarterly, which is printing a transcript of the Can. Authors Assoc. panel discussion I took part in with three other women writers in Kitchener, Ontario. The comic itself won’t be on sale until the end of November.

Meanwhile, my baby sister Julia (OK, so she’s 19) is in London, England, right now, and it’s kinda freaking me out. I mean, she goes there and they bomb the city–what’s with that? Sooner or later, George Bush will become persona non grata in countries other than the USA, due to the wake of anger that follows him around the world.

For your listening pleasure and to distract you from the bleak news we’re all being bombarded with, let me recommend the Global Pop Conspiracy’s Internet radio station. They “refuse to allow the false constructs of ‘genres’ and ‘formats’ to govern our aural prerogative.” Fun!

  1. I was downstairs watching BBC early in the morning while you were sleeping. One of my first thoughts, of course, was of Julia, followed quickly by the thought that the bombings came way too early for her to be awake. ;)

I did find her online shortly before you woke up, and she confirmed that she was safe and asleep while the chaos ensued.

  2. I just tuned in GPC…another music source to help me keep working away. Thanks Emily

  3. Yeah, J’s fine. Though, apparently she’s got a bruise on her shoulder because a 10-year old boy threw a crab apple at her. Those Brits are nasty.

  4. I listen to GPC almost every day. I like it a lot, except I don’t like the way between every few songs the same people say “Your listening to such and such famous person on Global Pop Conspiracy.com”

  5. Sean: I think that’s kinda funny. Like, a man’s voice saying: “This is Carol King, and you’re listening to Global Pop Conspiracy.” Maybe I haven’t tuned in for long enough stretches for it to wear on my nerves.
