Woke up to a lovely email from Mandy, who works at Words Worth Books in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. She’s posted about Strange Times at Western High on the bookstore’s blog. Great to see she gets what I’m doing here:
“It is in the details of her characters where Emily shines brightest. She references specifics from culture, hacker culture, urban exploration culture (I was most excited to see), graffiti and comic book references, and to Spanishfolk music.”
Also read a less-flattering review of the book in Quill and Quire, by a writer whose most recent book is military fiction for boys. It has a few favourable paragraphs, for example:
“The tale is cleverly crafted and Natalie is an intelligent, feisty heroine.”
